Hair Recycling

Boujee Bonds have teamed up with, Matter of Trust to partake in their Hair Recycling Scheme that uses unwanted hair extensions and other forms of donated hair to clean up oil spills in our oceans. Oil spills harm our oceans by releasing toxic hydrocarbons that damage marine ecosystems. They coat wildlife, such as birds and fish, disrupting their ability to survive, and contaminate food chains. Spills also affect coral reefs and coastal habitats, leading to long-term biodiversity loss. Additionally, they impact local economies dependent on fishing and tourism, with cleanup efforts often unable to fully restore affected areas.

We understand the impact that beauty products, including hair extensions, can have on the planet, and we strive to minimise our ecological footprint through innovative practices.

The process of recycling used hair extensions, is a vital step toward reducing waste and supporting environmental cleanup efforts. One of the most impactful uses of recycled hair is in the creation of hair mats, which are highly effective in cleaning up oil spills in oceans, rivers, and other waterways. These mats, made from donated human hair, act like sponges, absorbing oil while repelling water, making them an eco-friendly solution for tackling environmental disasters. By participating in Haircycling, you help divert hair waste from landfills, where it would otherwise contribute to pollution, and instead transform it into a powerful tool for environmental restoration. This initiative not only reduces waste but also directly contributes to protecting marine life and ecosystems affected by oil spills, making it a meaningful way to support a cleaner, healthier planet.

Once your extensions have reached the end of their use, we encourage you to return them to us through our Haircycling program. Simply package your used hair extensions, and secure with an elastic band or hair tie at the top. Next steps below.

Step 2: One of our team will be in touch to advise you whether posting, drop off or a collection point, is best for your location.

Step 3: Once we have collected all of your donations, we will then package and ship the hair to Matter of Trust.
